In the Name Index and Pedigree views at the end of each name are three icons, each of which can be clicked for different information.
Displays the person's individual information
Displays a choice of spouses and, once chosen, displays the family
Displays the Pedigree Chart for the selected individual
General
It is easy and relatively intuitive to browse the site. Click on things and see where it takes you!
You may notice that certain names are not in our database. That is possible for one of two major reasons:
- All living Meidells in our database have been hidden in the Name Index and are shown as merely "Living" in the Pedigree Chart and other places where they may show like Family Pages for obvious personal security reasons.
- The person is not in our database or incorrect in our database. If you beleive there is an error or omission, please contact the Webmaster.
Name Index
The Name Index is initially sorted by last name. You can search for a name using the search box, or click on a letter to get all last names starting with that letter. Currently, there are a few names without a last name which are listed in the alphabet as "#".
Once you have chosen a last name starting letter, a list will be displayed of all last names starting with that letter. After the name will be the number of individuals with that last name in parentheses. e.g. Meidell(97) Clicking on the last name will show first names in alpabetical order with birth and death years in parentheses and the icons listed above.
Pedigree Chart
The Pedigree Chart shows the person selected and up to 5 generations of ancestors. All names presented in the chart have the icons described above. In addition, if there are more ancestors or descendants, there will be a blue arrow pointing in the direction of more ancestors (&rsaquo) or further descendants (&lsaquo).
In the case of descendants, there may be a plus sign (+) before the blue arrow. Clicking this plus sign will allow you to select the child you wish to follow in the chart.
