Welcome to the Meidell Family web site. Our goal is to provide you with useful information about the Meidell family geneology. We hope this website makes it more enjoyable and easier for you to research your ancestors.

Currently, this web site traces the Family Meidell back to its earliest known progenitor, Gert von Meidell (~1606 - ~1696).  In the documentation section, there are references to persons before this, but there are currently no documented links between Gert von Meidell and these earlier references known to the Webmaster.

In addition, all known Meidells from Norway and Denmark are from Gert von Meidell, his son, Gerhard Meidell (1657 - 1717) and the oldest son of Gerhard, Colonel Jacob Gerhard Meidel (1686 - 1768).  Colonel Meidel's descendants are usually grouped into 3 main branches and 1 minor branch.  These branches are commonly named according to the farms each of the sons of Col. Jacob Gerhard Meidel owned and lived upon.  The main lines are:

The minor line is known as the Haavik-Meidells.  This line is from the daughters of Gerhard Meidel (1719 - 1784), some of which took the Meidell name.  Slightly more detailed information can be read on page 25 in the History and Origins of the Family link in the documentation section.

The Webmaster is descended through the Flesje-line and, therefore, this site currently has the most information about this line.  We hope as more family members discover the site, they will feel free to share details about the Flesje-line and, also, details of the other family lines.  Those details the sites researchers can verify will be added to the site on a scheduled basis.
